Comparison of Buddhism with Christianity:
Since so many American adults are converting from Christianity to Buddhism, it may be useful to compare the two.
We define as “Christian” any person or group who thoughtfully, sincerely, prayerfully regard themselves as Christian. This is the definition that pollsters and the census offices of many countries use. It includes as Christians the full range of faith groups who consider themselves to be Christians, including Assemblies of God members, Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Southern Baptists, United Church members, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc. Many Christians have a much less inclusive definition of the term “Christian” and specifically exclude many faith groups from this list.

Can You Be A Buddhist Christian?
I visited my my family this weekend for a picnic. They live in Chicago. I live almost eight hours away and other family members live even farther. It is rare to get us all together and so I felt compelled to show. I had to deal with many questions of my Buddhist faith. Most of my family is heavily invested into their Christianity and to them, the concepts of any other faith are considered false.

Difference Between Buddhism and Christianity
Buddhism is based on the teachings of prince-turned-saint Siddhartha Gautama also known as Lord Buddha while Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus. Followers of Buddhism recognize Lord Buddha as an “awakened master/teacher†who has given the eight-fold path of instructions to achieve salvation and release from the cycle of rebirth. Followers of Christianity believe that the Son of God, the Savior, Jesus came to earth to liberate man by paying for his sins. Buddhism vs Christianity similarities, differences
In the tolerant and enquiring times in the West over recent decades many people have become interested in other faiths than Christianity in particular in Buddhism.
To some people Buddhism appeals because of its promises of calm and enlightenment where traditional “Creationist” Christianity has come to be intellectually regarded, by many, as having been discredited by the challenge of alternative explanations of Human Existence such as the Darwinian Theory of Evolution.
Non “Creationist” Eastern Mysticism being less open to such intellectual criticism. Continue reading this entry »
